Just a few hours ago I recieved a text from a past Harper’s Bazaar intern notifying me that Diana aka Xuedan Wang is suing Hearst for unpaid work and hopes to create a class action! This is shocking news to me, even more so to know it was published by The New York Times, to then be picked up by fashionista.com and many other online publications instantly.
It will be extremely interesting to see how this will work its self out. Especially with the recent talk of exploiting interns in the hot seat. This type of attention could possibly cause a change in the fashion industry by how interns are treated and how many they may take on if they have to pay them. Or if this case may just fade away leaving hundreds of new interns finding their way as many pervious interns have before.
